Keep Night Out Events for Our Whole Community

North Salt Lake’s Civic Events Committee has recommended discontinuing the City’s Night Out events in 2027.

The City Council will consider that recommendation on Tuesday, September 15.

What’s Happening in North Salt Lake?

On August 25, North Salt Lake’s Civic Events Committee voted to recommend that the City Council consider discontinuing the City’s Night Out events in 2027 while continuing regular food truck nights.

The recommendation would affect the full Night Out series, including Pride Night, America 250, Juneteenth, Back to School, Ladies Night/Bolder Way Forward, and Latino Heritage.

This isn't the end of the process. Changes to the Night Out program require City Council approval, and the Council will consider the committee’s recommendation on Tuesday, September 15.

Why Night Out Events Matter

North Salt Lake's Night Out events pair community programming with the City's Monday evening food trucks and give neighbors a chance to come together.

In 2026, those events have included celebrations and programming around Pride, America 250, Juneteenth, Back to School, women's experiences, and Latino and Hispanic heritage.

The City describes its events as opportunities to “strengthen and unite our community.”

We believe the Night Out series helps fulfill that goal. Celebrating one part of a community doesn't exclude everyone else. It gives neighbors a chance to show up for one another.

What We’re Asking North Salt Lake to Do

Project Rainbow believes visibility creates belonging.

Of course we care deeply about Pride Night. But this recommendation isn't only about Pride. It affects opportunities created for Black community members, Latino community members, students and families, women, LGBTQ+ people, and neighbors who simply want to know one another better.

We don't want to save one Night Out at the expense of another. We want North Salt Lake to keep making room for its whole community.

We're asking the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager to:

• Continue the Night Out program in 2027.

• Preserve opportunities for different parts of North Salt Lake's community to be seen, celebrated, and brought together.

• Work with the Civic Events Committee, community partners, sponsors, and residents to address concerns about cost or staff capacity without eliminating the program.

Your Voice Matters

We've made it easy to contact North Salt Lake leaders, but your own words are more powerful than a form letter.

Consider telling them:

• Your connection to North Salt Lake or Davis County.
• Which Night Out event matters to you and why.
• What you hope the City Council will do Tuesday.

Keep it personal and constructive. The goal is to show city leaders why these events are worth continuing, not to attack the volunteers or committee members who made the recommendation.

If you live in North Salt Lake, tell your elected leaders what these events mean to you. If you live elsewhere in Davis County, tell them why inclusive community events in North Salt Lake matter to you and your neighbors.
