SALT LAKE CITY — Volunteers with Project Rainbow in Utah are preparing to celebrate Trans Awareness Week.
The week of Nov. 13 through Nov. 19 is a week of celebration, advocacy and awareness for the transgender community.
Over the weekend, volunteers prepared to distribute over 1,000 pride flags.
Those flags will be staked in the yards of willing community members and then collected at the end of the week.
According to Project Rainbow, flags are going to start being sent out on Sunday.
In a press release, Project Rainbow states they offer flag staking and collection services for the community. Operations Coordinator Carina Linares says this is an important year to show support.
“Showing that you are an ally and a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community is essential, especially right now during election year,” Linares said.
Project Rainbow reports over 1,000 people have signed up for the campaign, which doubles its totals from 2021 and 2022 combined.
