Slay Lake City Showcases Queer Joy: Project Rainbow Opens Grant Applications for 2025

SALT LAKE CITY — Dozens of campers and hundreds of supporters made some noise for queer joy in Salt Lake City Sunday night.

Slay Lake City raises funds for Rock Camp SLC’s summer camps, which provide inclusive and empowering spaces for cis girls, transgender, and nonconforming youth.

Hillary McDaniel, Rock Camp Organizing Director, said 300 people came out to watch 12 bands rock out.

“It was high energy, and we’re thrilled to have beat our fundraising goal of $10,000,” she said.

ABC 4’s Anneka Johns spoke to organizers and campers at Sunday’s event, check out the video above for her report.

Rock Camp SLC is one of many organizations Project Rainbow Utah has partnered with over the years to empower and uplift LGBTQ+ Utahns. Sunday’s fundraiser is one way Rock Camp SLC’s supports their youth programming, and grants from Project Rainbow are another piece of that pie.

Project Rainbow Utah is accepting applications from organizations and individuals for grants in 2025.

“In 2025, we are particularly motivated to fund efforts across rural Utah, where our community

often lacks support,” said Jacey Thornton, Executive Director for Project Rainbow. “Please apply!”
